Kent Down Mushrooms - Kentdown Mushrooms is based in Fawkham in Kent and run by Nigel Baddeley.  The farm has been operating for over 30 years and has two full time dedicated growers and a highly skilled group of pickers.

The mushrooms are harvested using a dual system of in house picking and since 2000 Nigel developed a mushroom picking line which is used to pick and pack at the same time reducing picking costs considerably.

The trays are picked straight into and then loaded with a forklift and are then moved through to the pickers using a series of rollers where the trays are picked. Once picked the trays carry onto to the end of the end of the line where they are stacked ready to return to the tunnels.

The farm manufactured the picking line with automatic waste disposal of stalks and waste. This also consisted of a conveyer system to take away the product from the picker straight to the weighing station. The product is then chilled in the High Humidity Chiller ready for dispatch to companies similar to ours.
